Kitchen overhaul... again

We lucked into being able to buy new black granite counters at an absurd discount... it was really too good to pass up. So we're fixing up the kitchen again. This is the longest we've gone without a change (about a year) and I hope it will be the last time. As of now, the only things left from the "original"kitchen when we moved in are the cabinets, the windows and the door trim.

I'll post updates as we continue.
The Bar counter comes out

The hideous linoleum faux tile behind the faux bead board. Ironic, since this was the color of the kitchen walls when we moved in.

How did I not know that there was nothing holding up the corner of the counter????

The Rockwell Sonicrafter to the rescue.

Can I report the former owner for plaster abuse?

Pop Quiz, Hot Shot!

We registered for Lenox Hancock Platinum dinnerware when we got married and recently bought some attractive stoneware from Target to use as our every day dishes. The problem: they're both beige with a dark and metallic rim. I think this is too much for me. Thoughts?

The good stuff

The Every Day

I love this, but it does not go with anything else in our dining room.

More house envy. Alas, this one is in Springfield, MA so too far for us.

"Stylish" Lyndhurst Olympian

I seldom watch the Olympics but I do like the figure skating and snow boarding. Thus, I want to point out that Olympic figure skater, Johnny Weir, is from neighboring Lyndhurst, NJ. Poor Johnny, he took 6th place on Feb 16 but he is fun to watch. He claims he may retire from skating and go into fashion design. Um, really, have you seen skating costumes?!?!?! Who would want to dress like that?

In other news, he gets his hair styled at Eric Alt Salon in Wood Ridge. While that does not make me want to get my hair cut there, it does make me want to drive over and gawk and the patrons. Conversely, I get my hair done at Bangz in Montclair, where I think most of the customers come out looking pretty chic.

Here's a picture of Johnny from the Feb 16 performance. You be the judge.

House Envy

This house is about half a mile from mine and about twice the price. Is it twice as nice, I don't think so, but I am super envious of the original woodwork and detailing.

Stairway is reminiscent of Stanford White houses

Edwardian columns, window trim and picture molding, nice!

Floors seem to be in lovely condition, simple stained glass window, and might that be the original door!?!?

The view is not as nice as where I used to live in Weehawken, but I'll take it.

House Inspiration

I'm grooving on this bedroom at the moment. Our "master" bedroom is a very similar color but with silver accents and carmel-colored wood furniture. I could easily get from there to here:

Medieval Times

Have I mentioned that we're just down the road from the Lyndhurst location of Medieval Times? I've not been there since I was a kid (when it first opened) but Linnea wanted to go for her 30th birthday, so we did. Our knight, the blue knight, lost.

Best Halloween Decoration

I love this house and they did an amazing job decorating for Halloween. The little cupola with the gargoyle is not part of the structure - cool, huh? Best thing, it is right down the block from my house.
